Important archaeological remains from Roman times, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, unique of their kind, can be found here in the lands governed by the Montefeltro and Malatesta families. There are admirable buildings, churches, villas, castles and abbeys from all historical periods. Museums, picture galleries, libraries and art collections take the visitor back in time to appreciate the unfolding of art, craftsmanship and tradition. Numerous picturesque fortified towns built on the tops of hills and mountains, still surrounded by their original walls, fascinate the visitor and offer interesting places in which to stop off.

FANO - View of Augustus' Arch (9-10 A.D.), flanked by the so-called "Cassero" tower built in the same period, and the fa‡ade of the renaissance church of St. Michael
MONDAVIO - the fortress The fortress, commissioned by Giovanni della Rovere and built between 1482 and 1492, was designed by the Siena architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini. It is a splendid example of Martini's innovative genius in bringing about a transformation in the military building techniques of the 1400's, which became necessary after the discovery of gunpowder.

PIOBBICO The Brancaleoni Castle (XIIIth-XVIIth centuries)
The Castle (which can be visited with a guide) is built around several internal courtyards and provides an interminable sequence of frescoes, stuccoes, mantelpieces and coats-of-arms.
